Surgical interventions include approaches that are performed in operating rooms with precise sterile conditions, in which appropriate anaesthesia techniques for the patient- such as local, spinal or tumescent anaesthesia may be used, skin incisions and following suturations may be done. The surgical approach to be performed is determined according to each patient’s varicose vein status and personal characteristics. Surgical procedures are as follows:
Open varicose vein surgery (venous stripping) is a method of finding the main varicose vein (great saphenous vein) by making small incisions in the groin and, depending on the surgeon’s preference, in the ankle or below the knee, in operating room conditions and completely removing the vein with the help of a wire sent through the vein. The incisions are then closed. Small incision scars may remain. This is the classic form of varicose vein surgery.
